Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township to hold Annual Memorial Day Service on May 29
CLINTON TOWNSHIP – Originally called Decoration Day, recognizing the nation’s war dead began after the Civil War. In 1868, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), an organization of Union Army veterans, established what is known today as Memorial Day.
Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township recognizes those who have died in all American wars, with a Memorial Day Mass and veteran’s service observed on Monday, May 29.
The ceremony is open to the public. Mass begins at 10 a.m. in Section 55, followed by a service to dedicate Veterans inscription tablets at 11:30 a.m. in the Veterans Section, located near the cemetery’s southwest corner.
“We’re pleased to partner once again with Clinton Township to hold a Memorial Day service,” said Resurrection Cemetery Director Tim Burrows. “Macomb County and Clinton Township are home to many men and women who served our country and made it possible for all of us to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy.”
Echoing these sentiments, Township Supervisor Bob Cannon said, “It’s always an honor to be invited to emcee this annual tradition in Clinton Township. Honoring our military is a privilege, and I look forward to seeing many veterans and their families in attendance.”
Resurrection Cemetery invites the entire community to ceremonial events hosted throughout the year, on Patriot Day, Veterans Day, and with Wreaths Across America.
Resurrection Cemetery is located at 18201 Clinton River Road in Clinton Township.
