Department of Roads Invasive Weed Treatment

9/19/2018

From September 24 to approximately October 15 the Macomb County Department of Roads will be working in partnership with our community to treat the invasive weed phragmites growing in road rights of way throughout the community.  Contractors will be spraying the affected ditches sometime during that time frame. Residents who wish to opt out of having the treatment done on road right-of-way adjoining their property may do so by placing a sign stating “Do Not Spray” at both ends of their property along the road right of way.

Our community is glad to be working together as part of a coordinated effort to manage invasive species in the region.  We are a part of the Lake St. Clair CISMA—Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area—made up of partners from Macomb, St. Clair and part of Oakland County.  Recently our efforts received coverage on our local news outlets.  Follow the links below to see the stories.

Clinton Township to Hold Electronics Recycling Event for Its Residents on September 29th

9/5/2018

Do you have an old computer, television, or electronic device that you want to dispose of but are not sure how? Well, if you live in Clinton Township, your problem is solved.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, you can bring your unwanted electronic devices to the Clinton Township Civic Center to have them properly and safely disposed. It’s a free event with curbside service, which means you don’t have to get out of your car. But you’ll need to roll down your window to show identification proving you are a Clinton Township resident.

“As technology advances and more new products enter the market, the challenge to dispose of outdated electronics increases,” said Township Supervisor Bob Cannon. “We’re holding our recycling event to help Clinton Township residents safely remove their electronic waste in the best possible manner. We intend to make this an annual event,” he said.

According to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), one of the best reasons to hold an electronic waste collection event is to protect the environment. Some electronic devices can contain toxins like lead, cadmium and mercury – all considered hazardous if not disposed of properly. For township residents who are concerned these devices will end up in a local landfill, bringing unwanted electronic devices to a recycling event is the answer.

Acceptable electronic wastes include almost anything with a power cord that isn’t on the unacceptable list below. This includes computers and accessories, printers, cell phones, home phones, radios, stereo systems, CD players, TV’s, DVD and Blu-Ray players, fax machines, photocopiers, typewriters and word processors, game consoles and accessories.

Unacceptable wastes include household hazardous waste, latex and oil-based paint, explosives, flares, fireworks, weapons and ammunition, radioactive waste, industrial and commercial waste, compressed gas cylinders, trash, tires, yard waste, appliances and white goods, Freon-containing items, medications and syringes.

The DEQ recommends that before recycling your old computer or other electronic devices, make sure that the data in them is completely deleted. For tips on deletion, contact a local computer repair center.
