Encourages health safety of online payments
CLINTON TOWNSHIP – Clinton Township Treasurer Paul Gieleghem announced that the Township Treasurer’s office would remain open until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in February to assist those seeking services beyond regular business hours. On Feb. 2, 9, 16, and 23, the Township Treasurer’s office will open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Township offices are open for business Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Monday, March 1, the last day to pay 2020 taxes, the Treasurer’s office will open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. “We always focus on convenience and efficient service,” said Gieleghem. “This year, because of the pandemic, there’s a greater emphasis on service safety,” he said. Gieleghem added that any person entering the Civic Center is required to wear a mask. The Township Board added a health check station that includes checking temperatures and completing a contact trace form. “If you need to come in, we’ll be here to serve you safely at our counter, and if you’re among those needing to avoid public spaces, we understand and offer several safe and convenient payment options,” said Gieleghem. Gieleghem emphasized the safety of our online and automated phone payment options, which can be found at clintontownship.com/bill-payments, and on the accompanying chart. He added the Treasurer’s office selected Point & Pay as their bill-pay service provider because of their experience working with Michigan municipalities, their user-friendly platform, and the fact they exceed the financial industry’s PCI compliance standards designed to protect financial information. “I make it a priority to protect our resident’s financial information,” said Gieleghem. “In private industry, customers can choose who to do business with. You’re stuck with me on your tax and water bills. So we have zero tolerance for a breach, and if a payment fails, the mistake better not be on our end, and our vendor better share that belief and be willing to back it up!” To further encourage online and automated phone payments, Gieleghem recently sought and received authority to grant a one-time waiver of the $25 fee imposed by Township ordinance for a payment fail because of typos or transposed numbers. “While statistically speaking, it doesn’t happen often, we can now provide some relief to our customers as they become more proficient in making online payments,” he said. Township offices are closed Monday, February 15, 2021. For more information, contact the Treasurer’s office at 586-286-9313. Comments are closed.
